Little and quick illustration to use for my new website (www.jeremieclaeys.com) and social networks (FB, Pinterest, Twitter, Behance… and even Tumblr, yes!). Check those out btw!

Self-portrait
I’ve been working on this one for a while. It’s never easy to picture oneself. But hey, yeah… at the end of the day, that could definitely be me. An illustrative me. This is roughly everything that’s going on while creating. I’ll let you figure for yourself everything that’s going on in that little head of mine…

The master
I’ve been waiting for P.T. Anderson’s new movie for months. His previous movies (Magnolia, There will be blood, and so on) always impacted me very much. So, it’s with great anticipation I went to see that one in the cinema last month. Useless to say it was very well directed like usual and a very complex and intricate story between the main characters. It leaves you with an incomfortable feeling at the end, but I wasn’t expecting anything else anyway.
What it did leave me with, was the will to illustrate a shot of the movie which impacted me straight away as I saw it. The composition, the characters, the disposition, etc. everything expresses the complexity of the relationships between the characters of the movie in one shot. Here it is (—> http://bit.ly/Udtnfv).
So, it is very natural that a few days later, I took my pencils and started to draw. What you see above is the result of it. I hope you like it. And if you haven’t done it yet, why not go watch that movie?

It’s that time of the year again! Everyone does it, so why shouldn’t I when music is one of my passions? Ladies and gentlemen, here’s my Top 10 albums for 2012 (and yes, I have a soft spot for ‘rock music’ in general, it’s true). Enjoy the ride.
1. The Chariot : One wing (the most original)
2. MewithoutYou : Ten Stories (the most inspiring)
3. Thrice : Live at the house of blues (the most emotionally moving)
4. The Welcome Wagon : Welcome to the welcome wagon (the most spiritually accurate)
5. Noir Désir : Soyons désinvoltes, n’ayons l’air de rien (the most ‘rebel’)
6. Daughters : S/T (the most crazy)
7. dEUS : Following sea (the most easy listening)
8. The Heavy : The glorious dead (the best discovery)
9. Have Heart : 10.17.09 (the best sing-a-longs and energy-filled)
10. Andrew Bird : Break it yourself (the most restful) -

Rend Collective Experiment x Open Doors
This month, I’ve been asked again by Open Doors to design something for them. This time, I’ve had the pleasure of going back to the gig poster discipline (it’s been a while) and design a poster for a Rend Collective Experiment (yes! Them!) gig they are doing in support of Open Doors Youth in 2013.
It’s a bit more design focused than the usual stuff I post on this blog (which is usually only for my illustration work), but as I had the joy and creative freedom of using my illustration skills for it, I’m posting it anyway. I tried to capture the spirit and colours of the band, trying to bring that nice handmade feel they cherish in their records and spirit.
It’s been a real joy to work on this project (especially as I like the band too) even though… it’s not going to be used. That’s right. Sadly, a last minute change in the organisation and promotion of the event has result in not using my work in the end. Sad. I know (as it looks quite nice, right?). In the end, it’s still a nice project I’ve been blessed to work on, and… I mean… I nearly did an official Rend Collective Experiment promotion piece! That only was fun in itself. Remains a nice piece for my portfolio…

La Catin Décatie
Sometimes art happens for the sake of art, right? So, this one happened for nothing more than for the joy of telling a story and creating something pleasing. These last couple of months I started to connect a bit more with my Belgian surrealistic heritage, so it’s very naturally I started to include some of those elements in my artwork. Oh, and btw, please, be nice with this old lady.

HOPE
Last month, I’ve been asked to illustrate a ‘Thank You’ card for Open Doors. For those who don’t know, Open Doors is an international charity serving and helping persecuted christians worldwide. For christmas, they’ve put together a gift catalogue. This catalogue will provide a whole bunch of things, gifts and help for persecuted christians, for christmas but throughout the year too. And so, each time a supporter will buy and offer something through that catalogue, they will receive a lovely card with this lovely illustration on it, thanking them for bringing hope to those who need it most.
The illustration is filled with little details showing various sides and implications of this project. The colours aren’t christmas-like as it’s going to be used until october 2013, so that’s why you won’t find any blue-green-red.
I hope you enjoy it, and oh, check this charity if you don’t know them allready. They’re doing an amazing job(!) and when the gift catalogue is out, make sure to buy something to get one of those lovely cards in return ;)

Life is a choice
Allright, allright! It’s been a while since the last time I posted something on my blog. Way toooo long actually! A lot has happened in my life since February… a lot that kept me busy… but hey! Here I am definitely back with a few new illustrations to show and a bunch of new ideas in my mind waiting to be fleshed out! So, let’s not wait too long, here is one of my new illustration!
I enjoy the playfulness between the shapes, the simplicity of colours, the intricate imagery and the various meanings you can find in it. I think it’s definitely something new in my body of work and something I’m going to explore a bit more in my new stuff soon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did myself. -

Music is hard work
Well… here is another illustration I did to celebrate the new year with music. And what better music than jazz to celebrate a classy new year full of opportunities and fun?
So, yeah, and don’t go thinking playing music is easy… it’s not!
Btw, this illustration may be printed as a print soon too (still not sure though… so keep looking). -

I’m a bit late, true, but still, here is an illustration I did for Edustries - which was printed into postcards (yes madame! Postcards!). We did send those to our clients and friends to say thank you for work and friendship :)
If you want one, just drop me a message or say hi and give me your address…
